Who we are

Guarantee access by Deaf and disabled people to culture as a fundamental human right.

We are a company whose goal is to transform the experience of live events for over 1 million Deaf and disabled people living in Portugal. Access Lab is born from the people and for the people.

We work in an integrated manner: we do not just want ramps. We need accessible websites, physical access points and programming; inclusive ticketing systems; and audience mediation. Making this vision a reality requires cooperation from artists, professionals, politicians, institutions and the Deaf and disabled people themselves. We guarantee such an interaction and we invest in training, communication and impact studies.

This project was born out of the profound belief that culture and entertainment are privileged spaces for maintaining freedom. Transforming the current landscape for Deaf and disabled people requires only a change in attitude. Access Lab is also an advocacy instrument.

“Can you see where those lights are? Can you see that woman? She is a sign language interpreter. Every time I whatch her she moves me. I hope I’m singing well for you to interpret.”
